Former Enfield Rep. Greg Stevenson Endorses Robert Lynch for County Legislator

Wednesday, June 16, 2021

Greg W. Stevenson, the only Democrat to have been elected to the Tompkins County Legislature in District 8, comprising the towns of Newfield and southern Enfield, today endorsed Enfield Councilperson Robert Lynch to fill the District 8 seat in this year’s elections.  Lynch will compete for the Democratic nomination in the June 22nd Primary to fill the position to be vacated at year’s end by Republican County Legislator David McKenna.

“District 8 voters in Tompkins County now can elect a candidate to the County Legislature who will be an independent thinker and a voice for all District 8 residents,” said Stevenson, who served as District 8 County Legislator from December 2005 through 2009.  “I’ve worked with Robert Lynch before and during the pandemic.  Bob analyzes issues and proposes common sense solutions like few elected officials that I have personally known.”

With regards to the COVID-19 pandemic and governmental responses to it, Stevenson stated, “When I wrote to the Enfield Town Board members about Tompkins County’s decision to do nothing to give seniors a leg-up on getting the newly arrived COVID 19 vaccine, Bob acted immediately to advocate for and assist seniors and protect public health. “

Prior to his service on the County Legislature, Stevenson served nearly eight (8) years on the Enfield Town Board, the same governing body as Councilperson Lynch has now served for the past 18 months.  Currently serving as Chief of the Enfield Volunteer Fire Company (EVFC), Stevenson worked with both Lynch and Councilperson (now Enfield Supervisor) Stephanie Redmond in crafting the current three-year contract between the Town and the EVFC.

“During contract negotiations for fire protection in Enfield, Bob truly thought ‘outside the box’ in establishing provisions to meet the critical personal protective equipment needs of local first-responders.  Bob’s work helps to get things done.”   The final negotiated Enfield-EVFC contract allocates Town funds in each of its three years to provide protective clothing for EVFC volunteers.

Concluding his endorsement, former County Legislator Stevenson wrote, “I know that Bob Lynch is trustworthy, has impeccable integrity and will be our independent voice that the Tompkins County Legislature needs.”

Councilperson Lynch faces Vanessa Greenlee in the June 22nd Democratic Primary.  The winner will go on to face Republican nominee Randy Brown in the November 2nd General Election.

In politics these days, it’s not unusual to see candidates with a very narrow focus, virtually single-issue candidates. In my nearly eight (8) years on the Enfield Town Board and over four (4) years representing Newfield and Enfield on the Tompkins County Legislature, I thought it important to consider all issues in front of us with diligence, fairness, and objectivity.  With the benefit of all residents as the goal.

District 8 voters in Tompkins County now can elect a candidate to the County Legislature who will be an independent thinker and a voice for all District 8 residents.  I’ve worked with Robert Lynch before and during the pandemic.  Bob analyzes issues and proposes common sense solutions like few elected officials that I have personally known.  When I wrote to the Enfield Town Board members about Tompkins County’s decision to do nothing to give seniors a leg-up on getting the newly arrived Covid 19 vaccine, Bob acted immediately to advocate for and assist seniors and protect public health.  During contract negotiations for fire protection in Enfield, Bob truly thought “outside the box” in establishing provisions to meet the critical personal protective equipment needs of local first-responders.  Bob’s work helps to get things done.

I know that Bob Lynch is trustworthy, has impeccable integrity and will be our independent voice that the Tompkins County Legislature needs.
